"Languages attract bonus points for university entrance and, after scaling, marks in French are more valuable than for most other languages" (The Age, October 2003)

New in 2005 - French will now be taught at Year 2, as well as Years 3 - 6.

The GPS French program involves the study of French grammar, conversation and culture, via classroom teaching, textbooks, worksheets, oral and aural language sessions, video presentations, practical projects, games and excursions.

Primary school age is the perfect age for students to learn a language and doing so can assist them to better understand the grammatical concepts within their own language. Language study also develops verbal expression, confidence and teamwork, and imparts an understanding of other cultures.

Mme Sally Holt - a secondary trained teacher and former tour guide, teaches the French program at GPS. Sally has over 30 years of experience in teaching and pastoral care, and has conducted several French overseas study tours.

The GPs French program has a strong emphasis on transition, so as to prepare students for Year 7 French. Sally Holt and GPs have developed strong links with all local secondary feeder schools, such as Canterbury Girls Secondary College, Koonung Secondary College and Balwyn High, as well as private schools, such as: MLC, Ruyton Girls' School and Carey Baptist Grammar School.
