Principal's Report
Internet at Home
The internet is a powerful tool and has added a new dimension to communication, research and the ability to gain information almost instantly. It has also presented us with dilemmas and issues as we endeavour to protect our students from harmful and inappropriate sites. The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development provides us with secure sites and access to harmful or unsuitable sites is automatically blocked. Having access to the internet at home can also assist students with a range of learning activities. However, I would urge all parents to ensure that they have the appropriate security and filtering programs in place. It is very easy to stumble upon inappropriate sites whilst undertaking an ‘innocent’ search. ‘Chat lines’ and forums that can be easily accessed also pose potential risks and are often used inappropriately. Please remain vigilant and monitor carefully the use of the internet by children at home.
