Principal's News - October 8

We’re very excited about the return to face-to-face teaching for all students from next Monday.

Return To School
The second phase of remote learning, combined with the Level 4 lock-down restrictions, created a difficult time for everyone to navigate through, so it is wonderful that we are moving back to some semblance of normality. Though normal Term 4 activities and events will not be possible, we are planning on making the final 10 weeks of the year a positive and productive experience for the students in every year level. In particular, this will be a time for our Year 6 students to shine in their final term of primary school.

Again I would like to thank you all for the incredible support you gave to your child/children and the teachers throughout remote learning 2.0. The learning continuity achieved would not have been possible without your ongoing support and assistance on a daily basis. The teachers acknowledge and sincerely thank you for this.

As the students return to school, we will be maintaining our vigilance with personal hygiene. Handwashing and sanitising will occur on a regular basis throughout each day. We will also be closely monitoring the health of every student and parents will be contacted if a student is showing signs of being unwell such as coughing, sneezing or a high temperature. Therefore, I ask that sick children please not be sent to school. Please keep your child/children at home even if they have mild symptoms for any illness.

Please note that any student who is 12 years of age is not required to wear a mask to school.

2021 Enrolments
Despite not being able to conduct onsite school tours for the remainder of the year, we continue to take Prep enrolments for 2021, along with enrolments for all other year levels. If you are planning to enrol your child at Greythorn for next year, I urge you to complete this task as soon as possible.  Planning is well underway for next year and finalising numbers across all year levels assists greatly in this process. Additionally, if you know of a family planning on enrolling here, would you please encourage them to do so as soon as possible? All relevant enrolment information for Prep 2021 and other year levels is available on the school website. This includes short informative videos outlining key prep programs, a Welcome video, enrolment documentation and relevant information about the school. Phone contact can also be made via the office for enrolment queries or questions.

School Maintenance
A wide range of maintenance tasks were completed throughout the school during Term 3. The completion of this work was expedited by the fact that the school was predominately student free for 10 weeks. The Department’s ongoing Planned Maintenance Program was completed with the main focus being on the older buildings in the school. The scope of work completed within this program included:

  • Metal capping installed on fascia
  • External windows repaired and painted
  • Metal flashing replaced on the Hall
  • New steps constructed adjacent to the Hall
  • Repairs to asphalt
  • Guttering replaced on the Hall and junior toilet block
  • Extensive repairs and painting to external south walls and windows on the Art Room/Discovery Centre and Music room
  • Additional painting to external of toilet block and junior building
  • Resurfacing of the basketball courts

Additional tasks that were completed by school personnel included the construction of the new retaining wall adjacent to the netball court and fencing installed on the steps leading down from the Greythorn Rd entrance.

Work is also currently underway on the installation of a new rubberised surface under the two main play equipment areas. This work is scheduled to be be completed early next week.
