Principal's Report - 27 August

Remote Learning 2.0

As we progress past the halfway mark of this term’s remote learning phase, I would like to thank and acknowledge you all for your ongoing support of the teachers, as well as for the wonderful assistance you continue to give your child/children with their learning at home. Stage 4 restrictions have certainly created a challenging scenario for us all, but I have been heartened by how diligently everyone is working together to maintain learning continuity across all year levels. The work that is being submitted on a daily basis is of such a high standard, including the incredibly creative videos being produced by our Year 6 leaders for Assembly and House Challenges, and I congratulate all students on their hard work. As we move closer to the end of the current restrictions and remote learning phase, I encourage you to keep up the great work as we will soon be at the finish line of this phase.

We have taken advantage of students being offsite this term to complete a large number of maintenance tasks and projects, with additional work to continue in many areas around the school over the coming weeks. Tasks that have been completed or are being worked on include:

  • resurfacing of the external basketball courts
  • a new fence being erected on the south side of the steps leading down from the Greythorn Rd entrance
  • a new kitchen being installed in the out of hours care room
  • the bluestone steps adjacent to the Hall that were in disrepair have been replaced with concrete steps
  • painting of external window frames in the middle and bottom buildings
  • barge boards on the bottom building being replaced and painted
  • a 3.6m chain wire fence to be erected on the tiger turf along the Reading Ave boundary
  • a new retaining wall to be constructed along the garden bed adjacent to the Greythorn Rd netball court

2021 Prep Enrolments

Unfortunately due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, school tours are unable to be conducted until further notice. It is more than likely that this restriction will continue for the remainder of the year. This certainly makes it difficult for prospective families who are looking to enrol a child for prep in 2021. To assist families with this process, specific information regarding prep enrolment, along with general information on the school, is available on the website. This information is updated regularly and includes a range of informative videos that cover prep programs including Literacy, Numeracy and Buddies. A series of online transition sessions are also being developed for Term 4. If you know of anyone who is interested in enrolling at Greythorn, please encourage them to view the available information here. I am also available via phone to discuss enrolment for prep 2021 from Monday to Friday. Enrolment forms are available via the website and can be completed and submitted at:
